This inward exploration unveils personalized symbology that mirrors her internal landscape and existential musings.

She holds a Master's degree in Fine Art from Goldsmiths, University of London, and has exhibited her work internationally, including in the UK, Portugal, Australia, Japan, South Korea, and Indonesia.

Lubis’ practice delves into themes of femininity, interiority, and archetypes, blending uncanny, whimsical elements with both digital and traditional craft. She has participated in artist residencies in Indonesia and abroad, including PADA Studios International Art Residency (Lisbon, Portugal. 2022) and Glogau Artists in Residence (Berlin, Germany. 2025).

Primeval Playground (i), 2024. Multilayered mixed media on wood. 70x75cm.Revisited a long-lost technique I once practiced in this set of works. It’s also a happy coincidence that I’m able to display the work just 2 kilometers from the source of inspiration — the mystical Goa Gajah (Elephant Cave) in Ubud, dating back to the 9th century.

“I have always been naturally drawn to feminine iconographies. I began incorporating old images of Indonesian women from the colonial archive as an integral element of a series of work from 2016, primarily as a means to study and re-establish connections with my native roots.” 

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; “These historical images, captured by the Dutch Colony in the early 1900s, are laden with mythic and symbolic significance, evocative of the odalisque figure in art history. “
By positioning them in my paintings, I aim to reshape their narrative and imbue them with agency.”
